TalkVoir is a French-learning app. This policy describes what it collects, where that goes, and how to get rid of it. It is written to match what the app actually does — every claim below corresponds to a specific behaviour in the code, and if that behaviour changes this document changes with it.
This policy is about data. What you are buying, how a subscription is delivered, and how refunds work are in the terms of service and refund policy.

What we collect
Account details. Your email address, a password, and optionally a display name. Authentication is handled by Supabase; we never see or store your password ourselves.
Learning progress. XP, daily streak, completed levels, your spaced-repetition review schedule, and your weekly league placement. Your display name is visible to other learners on the leaderboard. Nothing else in this section is.
Voice recordings. When you use the AI conversation or pronunciation features, the app records audio and sends it to our server for transcription.
Conversation text. What you say or type to the AI tutor, and its replies.
Purchase records. If you subscribe, we store the tier, the dates, and the payment reference issued by the payment provider. We never receive or store your card details, and no payment provider gives them to us.
We do not collect location, contacts, photos, your device's advertising ID, or any analytics or advertising identifiers. The app contains no third-party advertising or analytics SDK.
How voice recordings are handled
This is the most sensitive thing the app touches, so it is worth being exact.
Audio is uploaded to our server, written to a temporary file, sent to a speech-to-text provider, and the temporary file is deleted as soon as transcription finishes. We do not keep your recordings. There is no audio archive and no way for us to play back anything you have said.
Pronunciation scoring is different again: it runs entirely on your device using the device's own speech recogniser, and that audio never leaves your phone.
Who else sees your data
- AI providers. Your conversation text is sent to one of Google (Gemini), Anthropic (Claude), Groq or xAI (Grok) to generate a reply. Which one depends on availability at the time. They process the text to return a response; we do not permit them to use it to train their models.
- Speech-to-text providers. Your recordings are transcribed by Groq, or by OpenAI or xAI if Groq is unavailable, and are not retained afterwards.
- Supabase. Stores your account, progress and subscription records.
- Google Play. If you subscribe on Android, Google processes the payment and tells us only whether the purchase is valid and which tier it grants.
- Google Cloud. Our backend runs on Google Cloud Run.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account and everything attached to it at any time:
In the app: Settings → scroll to the bottom → Delete account
Deletion is immediate and permanent. It removes your account, your progress and review schedule, your league history, and your subscription record. There is no recovery and no grace period.
If you cannot access the app, email support@talkvoir.com from the address you registered with and ask for deletion. We will complete it within 30 days.
One important caveat: deleting your TalkVoir account does not cancel a Google Play subscription. Only you can do that, from the Play Store, and you should do it before deleting your account. We have no ability to cancel or refund it on your behalf — a Play refund is Google's to give, and the refund policy says who to ask for each way of paying. Deleting your account also does not refund a paid period that still has time left on it.
Retention
Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. When you delete it, it is erased at once rather than marked inactive. Server logs, which contain user identifiers but no conversation content or audio, are retained by Google Cloud Logging for 30 days.
Children
TalkVoir is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export or erase your data, and to object to its processing. Deletion is available in the app as described above. For anything else, contact us at the address above; we answer within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
